2009 Corporation of the Year Award

We are pleased to honor Xcel Energy as the MEDA Corporation of the Year. The selection criteria for this award are:
- Financial contributor to MEDA - Xcel Energy and its foundation have been steadfast contributors for 39 years. NSP was a founding corporate supporter and, in the midst of tough financial times, the foundation increased its giving by 12.5% in 2009!
- Active participant with MEDA - Peter Glass serves on our board, played an active role in our strategic plan for 2010-2012, and is also serving on one of the MEDA Entrepreneurial Leadership Program Advisory Councils. In addition, Xcel’s Chairman and CEO Richard Kelly serves on MEDA’s Advisory Council.
- Aggressive program to recruit additional minority suppliers - The minority business community has a strong champion in Hector Martinez, who works diligently and creatively to identify opportunities for MBEs and line up great suppliers for Xcel Energy.
- Active promoter of MBEs and MEDA in the community - Xcel Energy has proudly shown its support to MEDA and to entrepreneurs of color by participating in public meetings, benefit events and by offering MEDA as a resource to its diverse suppliers.
Xcel Energy is indeed ‘responsible by nature’ by playing a role in the overall health of the minority business community and through its support to MEDA.
